De discipline-streak in de TIC-app: een teller die je winst bewust niet meet

Almost every app that gamifies trading rewards the wrong thing. It counts wins, or profit, or the number of trades placed, and each of those quietly teaches a habit that costs money. The discipline streak inside the free TIC app trading journal was built to count something else entirely.

What does the discipline streak actually measure?

Two behaviours, and only two: consistency, meaning how many separate days you wrote your trades down, and plan adherence, meaning whether you named the setup you were trading before you took it.

Both are things you control completely, and both are recorded as fact rather than judgement. What the streak never counts is equally deliberate:

  • Not wins, win rate, profit or pips. Those are outcomes, not behaviour. A disciplined trader has losing months and a reckless one has winning weeks, so scoring discipline on results teaches the opposite of discipline and turns a normal bad run into a personal failing.
  • Not the number of trades. That is frequency, and rewarding it pushes people to overtrade to keep a streak alive. The counter measures days, and multiple entries on one day count exactly once.

What are the guardrails?

A stale streak reports zero.

This is the important one. A streak is alive only if your last journal entry was today or yesterday. If you journaled for twelve days in May and stopped, the app shows 0, not 12. There is no grace period, because a grace period is just a longer streak with a softer name and the member cannot see where it ends.

Your longest run is preserved.

"Your best run was 31 days" is an honest statement about the past, so it survives a break. Only the live counter resets.

Day arithmetic is server-side and in UTC.

The day is stamped when the server receives the entry, specifically so a device clock cannot be changed to mint streak days. That does create a real edge case: a member in the Gulf logging a trade at 02:00 local time is credited to the previous UTC day. That is the correct trade-off, because a streak that can be spoofed is worth nothing.

Plan adherence is withheld below five entries.

One planned trade out of one is not "100% of your trades followed a plan", it is a sample of one. Below five entries the app shows the raw counts and no percentage.

Milestones are day counts, never money: 7 days, 30 days and 100 days, worth 20, 100 and 500 rewards points respectively.

Who is it for, and what does it cost?

It is part of the trading journal, which is free in the TIC app, so it is aimed at exactly the trader who has not yet built a logging habit. If you are already journaling every session, it will tell you little you did not know. If you journal in bursts after good weeks and go quiet after bad ones, the counter will show you that pattern within a fortnight, which is uncomfortable and useful.

The honest limitation: a discipline streak does not make anyone profitable. Plenty of consistently journaling traders lose money, and the feature makes no claim otherwise. What it does is separate the one variable you control from the one you do not, so that a losing month stops being evidence about your character.

That separation is the same reasoning behind judging performance on a verified equity curve rather than a highlight reel, which is why TIC publishes independently verified Myfxbook records at /results. For the underlying concepts, what drawdown really measures and risk and reward are the natural next reads.

The app is free to download and the journal, including the streak, needs no paid tier.

Risk notice:

trading carries high risk and you may lose your capital; past performance does not guarantee future results; educational only, not investment advice.
